Happy Thanksgiving

The holidays are fast approaching and this week we will be giving thanks for the many people and belongings in our lives that sustain us and help us to move forward each day. Living in such a stressful world, it can seem extremely difficult for anyone to be thankful. Not only do we hear of crime, disasters, or terrorism on a daily basis, but we rush around our hectic days, filled with the demands of modern life, barely catching a breath.

A few months ago, however, I found this list on Facebook and it sums up how thankful we should all be. It’s a different way of looking at what we often think of as burdens, when, in reality, these are blessings in our lives. Many on this list are things we take for granted and we don’t think about them in terms of needs as we’ve become accustom to having them available at any given moment in our lives. Nevertheless, we should be thankful every day, not just when something goes our way…

Early Wakeups = Children to love

House to clean = Place to live

Laundry = Clothes to wear

Dishes to wash = Food to eat

Crumbs under the table = Family meals

Grocery shopping = Money to provide for us

Toilets to clean = Indoor plumbing

Lots of noise = Friends and family in my life

Endless questions about homework = The ever-growing brain of a child or grandchild

Sore and tired in bed = I’m still alive
